Very simply, what does your tech start-up do?
- Notifyy allows you to track and get notifications when the price drops of a product you want to buy.
- It allows you to set a target price so you only get notified when the product hits your target price.
- It allows you to build “collections” of products, either privately or publicly so it is handy for weddings, birthdays, house moving, gifts etc.
Tell us why there’s a need – what do you disrupt?
We put the power of buying and pricing in consumers hands! We are disrupting the pricing strategies of big name retailers. We are constantly collecting pricing strategy data so we can advise people on when is the best time to buy. Eventually, we will be able to do this for every major store.
Are you funded?
The agency that Benzie works for is giving early stage angel-investment to fund the launch marketing campaign across traditional and online media, as well as an ongoing, paid-for social media campaign.
What were you doing before starting?
Benzie is a web developer who has worked in the industry for five years. He works for digital agency 10 Yetis and has been the brains behind several engaging micro-sites that have gained big public appeal and social sharing including SocialSanta.co (tells you if you have been naughty or nice based on your Twitter stream), Life on Twitter (analyses Twitter behavior and personality), and TheBeardOlympics.co.uk (go have a look, its fun!). The three have gone on to gain millions of users – 2.9 million in total.
Notifyy.co.uk came about because Benzie wanted to buy an item of clothing but only when the item had dropped in price. He built a raw tool to track the product, shared it round the office and within a few weeks it had been shared with thousands of people via word of mouth.
What’s the best thing about where you’re based?
The South West is an entrepreneurial area and is inspirational for people like myself. It is also a hotbed of creative talent which makes recruiting good people far easier.
We have a good support network of creative hubs and incubator units close by too, and this is very handy for learning best practice and learning from people who have been there and done that.
